Name: Damilola Baptiste
Nationality: Liberian
Age: 23

Background story:
Damilola began a military career at age 12 when he was forced into service as a child soldier under a brutal West African warlord. During the conflict in Sierra Leone, his group ambushed and captured several British peace keeping soldiers. In the ensuing SAS raid his group was destroyed but he managed to escape into the jungle. Shortly after this an international health organization sponsored Damilola's rehabilitation and he eventually moved to South Africa to be with a foster family.

Unfortunately he was never able to outrun his violent pass and after graduating from school, he began pulling heists and assassinations in Cape Town. As a result of his criminal activity, he never stayed in the same spot for long and eventually sought profit by working for several insurgencies in South East Asia.

Skills and traits (verbally): He excels at stealth, hand to hand combat, knives and pistol marksmanship.

I've got several interesting characters I've made different variants of in different games.
Here's a few of my faves.

Catherine Harris:
Brought to a third world country at a very young age by her parents, (Peace Corps or MSF or something, I dunno) Catherine was orphaned when they came under attack by local guerilla forces.
Having nobody to care for her for some time, she became a child soldier amongst many others.
Being white skinned with straight dark hair, she was often singled out and ostracized by others early on. Her vicious nature and sharp mind, however, eventually lead to the other children accepting her.
Eventually, she was found by a mercenary and former US Infantryman who took her back to America and formally adopted her. Together they tried their best to live a simple first world life, but often struggled with the mundane and problematic nature of it all. Catherine left the battlefield.
But the battlefield never really left Catherine. Having attempted to enlist as early as she could, Catherine was rejected for infantry duty due to a psychological evaluation deeming her "potentially unstable." After this point, she took on the role of a mercenary, instead enlisting successfully with a PMC group. Showing excellent tactical capability and dedicating herself to personal refinement, it quickly became clear she was leadership material, and she was eventually assigned leadership, first over her own squad, then over an entire unit. With time, the PMC group she worked for was disbanded and she went on to found her own mercenary unit.
Specializing in close quarters combat, recon and squad coordination, Harris is best deployed as a support/recon unit, employing stealth, team tactics and advanced CQC to overwhelm enemy forces with hit and run attacks from all angles. However, Harris' most notable weakness is that just underneath her calm exterior is a ruthless temper, long suppressed like a caged tiger.

Viktor Sokolov:
Little is known of Viktor's origins, but he was pulled in by a patrol on the edges of the exclusion zone in Chernobyl. He speaks like a foreigner, but his accent was never clearly identified, nor did he possess and papers. Seldom speaking and never addressing his personal history, the best guess of his captors was that he was simply a bored foreigner who wandered in to play scavenger. "Viktor Sokolov" was the only name he ever spoke. When the unit investigating his history came under attack by Ukrainian rebels, however, Viktor quickly freed himself from captivity and fought against the invading force, killing a number of guerilla soldiers in the process. Eventually, he was released and allowed exception to enlist with the Russian Foreign Legion and since then has shown an aptitude for guerilla tactics, sniping and trapping. Rarely showing his face or speaking, many of his fellow soldiers were discomforted by his presence and he eventually made the decision to enlist with a mercenary unit. Showing a somewhat disturbing apathy during conflict, except when things become most heated, it would seem that Sokolov's interest is not monetary gain, but rather a simple drive for feeling alive. Having occasionally briefly spoken of his own mortality, it is suspected that Sokolov is perhaps hiding that he is of poor physical health and simply wishes to seek an exciting end in preference over dying in a bed. Given his time spent lurking in quarantined places, it's likely that whatever ails him may be related to cancer or other forms of radiation sickness.
All that's really known of Sokolov is that while his tactics and terminology is informal and sometimes unorthodox, he is certainly extensively trained and/or experienced in guerilla warfare, survivalism and marksmanship. And he clearly has a preference for Soviet era Russian firearms. However, the Russian government was stern in their denial that he may have ever been a Spetsnaz soldier.

Okay, getting too lazy to type out more, but here's some other brief ideas.

Transhumanist who works as a merc to fund the expensive custom prosthetics he wants to replace his original limbs with. Wants to eventually replace entire body.

Sociopathic blonde, short haired woman with one eye and some cool scars on that side of her face. Addicted to various drugs she uses as combat enhancers, smokes habitually. Ruthless and brutal, but not at all sadistic. Doesn't really feel much aside from the combat high and the drugs themselves. Makes her teamates nervous because she doesn't even pretend to care or feel fear or compassion.

Religious fella who genuinely believes he's doing god's work.
Follows violent commands from the voice of "god" in his head.

Absolutely cowardly guy who somehow manages to survive crazy odds.
Nobody can figure out why he's even there all the time, but he's hard to kill and obviously terrified half the time.

Assassin who feels like their combat is a work of art.
More concerned with the aesthetics and details of their "beautiful" kills than actual survival. Considers the battlefield their canvas. The knife and firearms their brushes.
The enemy's blood, their paint.

Billionaire who wants to be a modern day ninja.
Kinda like Batman without the ethics and orphan drama.
Spends a lot of money on high end gear and training because his life is boring.

Sniper who does their job specifically to cover everyone else.
Constant fear of failure due to tragic personal loss of former partner.
Always checking ammo, serious dedication to precise cover.

Hunting enthusiast who's gotten tired of other prey and just wants to hunt men because something more lethal and intelligent appeals to them as a target.
Discretely tries to take trophies sometimes. Grosses out teamates.

I'll maybe add to this list if any more ideas pop into my head. Have fun!

(If you decide to use my more detailed characters, please hit me up for details on their appearance and behaviors, etc.)

Name: Miguel Navarro

Nationality: Mexican

Age: 34

Background story:

After a brief career with the Mexican Army, Miguel drifted from job to job. In 2004, a close friend who had been the victim of a kidnapping began employing him as a driver and body guard. Miguel took this idea and ran with it. A few months later he was running one of the most successful private security companies in Mexico City.

In 2012, he resigned as CEO and joined the Autodefensa Comunitaria in the state of Michoacán. After months of firefights with cartel thugs, his group put down their arms and joined the government's newly-formed Rural Guards. When he saw how the cartels had infiltrated the Rural Guards, he refused to join them and left Mexico for his own safety.

After single-handedly breaking up a bar brawl in Barcelona by subduing all the belligerents, he found that someone had slipped a business card into his pocket with a phone number scribbled on the back. Much to his surprise, it was not the Mexican cartels tracking him down but a mercenary firm who soon put him to work in North Africa.

Skills and traits (verbally): Miguel is most comfortable in a firefight with a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun. He is also competent with most explosives and edged weapons.

Name: Victoria McKnight

Nationality: American

Age: 26

Background story:

Victoria grew up as an army brat, following her parents around to a variety of postings around the world. Her father left the military to join a private security contracting firm while she was in her teens and grew up in the company of many professional mercenaries. Her future choice of career was of no surprise to those close to her.

By age 18 and after a series of hobbies and mentors, she had developed formidable skills in martial arts, electronic communications, lockpicking and small arms. After serving a short stint with the US army, she was immediately hired by the private security contractor her father worked for. Her unit was employed by the CIA as an outsourced alternative to official assets, and saw action in black ops across Europe and the Middle East.

After a botched operation in Chechnya, many of her team members were killed and she took the loss extremely hard. She left her firm and began freelancing for a variety of corporate, private and national interests. She soon developed a reputation for being highly effective but often at the expense of resorting to extreme force when unnecessary, and refusing to work with a team for any length of time.

Skills and traits (verbally):

Victoria has developed a wide array of specialty skills such as lock-picking, electronics, and jiu jitsu over a relatively short career. In combat, she excels with pistols and sub-machine guns.

She prefers to work alone and avoids developing connections with fellow team members due to her past. She is also quick to violence when faced with challenges in the field.
